The Night Manager - TV series overview:
"The Night Manager" is a British-American television series based on the novel of the same name by John le Carré. The series was first broadcast in the UK on BBC One in 2016, and in the US on AMC. It was directed by Susanne Bier and written by David Farr.
The show follows the story of Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston), a former soldier who is recruited by British intelligence to infiltrate the inner circle of arms dealer Richard Roper (Hugh Laurie). Pine, who is working as a night manager at a luxury hotel in Cairo, becomes involved with Roper's girlfriend, Jed (Elizabeth Debicki), and uses his position to gather information on Roper's illegal arms deals.
As Pine becomes more deeply involved with Roper, he finds himself in increasingly dangerous situations, risking his own life to bring down the criminal organization. Along the way, he is aided by his handler, Angela Burr (Olivia Colman), a British intelligence officer who is determined to bring Roper to justice.
The series was praised for its performances, particularly that of Hiddleston and Laurie, as well as its tense and suspenseful plot. It was nominated for numerous awards, including Golden Globe and Emmy awards, and won several, including two Golden Globe awards for Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television (Hiddleston) and Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television (Laurie).
